A single spark of hope has sustained Susan and David Crouch since their daughter was killed by her husband two months ago.
As Babis Anagnostopoulos awaits trial over his wife’s drowning, the only consolation from her parents’ misery, the only reason they have to get up every morning and face ‘a bleak and empty future’ is the little granddaughter Lydia.
Caroline’s father, David told her Daily Mail that the wife is treating their granddaughter the same as Caroline when she was a child.
“She treats him exactly as she treated Caroline when she was a child. She plays with him constantly when he is awake and is alert to the slightest sound when he is asleep. The family is centered in Lydia.
Everyone is now awake at 6.30pm so Susan can visit Caroline’s grave before returning to prepare Lydia’s first meal of the day“, He says.
In an exclusive interview with the Mail, Liverpool-born David, 78, a retired engineer, explains how his granddaughter ties the fragile thread that holds her and Susan in despair.
“The comfort provided by Lydia at home is a mitigating factor in this tragic affair., ‘he says from their home on the remote Greek island of Alonissos.
‘But, I’m not a young boy and we’re all mortal. I have a deep concern that I may not be able to provide Lidian in those years when she may need the most support. “My only goal now is to give the best life to my wonderful daughter’s child.”
The British media has asked various citizens to help set up a fund to care for Lydian when her grandparents are no longer alive.
