German authorities claim that Facebook’s attempts to force WhatsApp users to accept the collection of their personal data as part of the new privacy policy is not legal.
As a result, authorities have ordered WhatsApp to stop the practice of collecting data on Facebook accounts.
The Hamburg Privacy Authority said the new terms of privacy are unfair and non-transparent. He suggested that the social network could misuse this data.
The same authority led by Johannes Casper in 2016 had ordered Facebook to stop collecting data from WhatsApp users.
But the social network says the ban will not prevent it from implementing the new rules. WhatsApp users must accept the new terms by May 15th. Facebook extended this deadline and was scheduled to take effect on February 8th.
Although WhatsApp has implemented end-to-end encryption, the new privacy rules state that the platform may share certain information with different parts of the business such as phone numbers, transaction history, mobile device information, IP addresses and other details. / PCWorld Albanian
