If anyone thought that after the April 25 elections, Albanian politics would go on vacation, it is wrong!
The political thermometer next week is expected to increase like never before, starting with the vote to dismiss President Ilir Mera from parliament, an unprecedented event for our decision. At the congress of socialists, Edi Rama is expected to unveil the governing vision of the next four years. The elections for the leadership of PD next weekend, put Lulzim Basha in front of a test not very easy to continue the leadership of PD but also for his future in politics.
The morning of June 9 will find the deputies of the assembly in front of the historic ballot box for the dismissal of the president. In this final confrontation with Ilir Meta, the Socialists need 94 votes, which they alone do not have. However, no surprises are expected, but it will be interesting to see the total number of pro-dismissal votes that will be produced by this vote and whether Edi Rama himself will return to parliament to repeat the accusations against Ilir Meta, who has expressed his determination. in the presidency until July 2022.
Three days later the Socialists convene their congress not to express the triumph of the victory of April 25 but to throw the organizational milestones towards the next local and parliamentary elections of 2025. Reorganizing each SP structure will be the key word of this congress. Meanwhile, the leader of the Socialists, Edi Rama, will launch the government’s priorities in this third term. The signals that Rama can give about the criteria for the selection of new ministers in the Rama 3 cabinet are awaited with interest.
The Congress of Socialists a day later will give way to the electoral race for the new leadership of the DP. Throughout Albania, through the 1-member 1-vote mechanism, the Democrats will choose who should lead the largest opposition party in the country after several consecutive electoral losses and political actions that could not bring him to power.
Lulzim Basha has entered this race with the advantage of being the chairman of the PD, while his three supporters as the horse of their electoral battle have highlighted the failures of Mr. Basha and the need to start a new chapter for the PD.
But will June 13 be the end of a calendar with high political temperatures with the Albanian domestic political factor as the protagonist?
