The Head of European Diplomacy, Josep Borrell, stated days ago that Kosovo deserves visa liberalization as it has met all the criteria.
Borrell said progress should be made on the issue, stressing that he would personally support such a thing.
“It has been a long time since visa liberalization for Kosovo. The country has met all the criteria related to this process and we now need to make progress on this issue. I will fully support this. “, stated Borrell.
But that is not the opinion of the former French ambassador to the US, Gerard Araud.
Citing Borell’s statement, he said that the abolition of visas for Kosovars remains a dream and will not happen even in 2022.
“I know I will be criticized in the EU, but I am not sure that the political atmosphere is ready for such a decision. “Let’s be realistic… Unfortunately…”, he wrote.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Petrit Selimi, reacted to his statement.
“Of course! When the far right has a chance to win, it means that Kosovar children will remain the only ones who cannot see or know Europe for the foreseeable future. “You can call it an atmosphere, but it is really insensitivity to the racist feelings of some parts of the voters,” he said.
And, the former ambassador of Kosovo in France, Bernard Nikaj, asked Araud what he was talking about specifically, visa liberalization or the recognition of Kosovo by Spain.
Araud said “visas, unfortunately”.
“In 2022, when will the presidential elections be held? “He is dreaming,” added Macron’s adviser.
Nikaj in his last reply to him said that it is unfortunate, and that he hopes that France will change its mind. “Then this is really unfortunate. Not only for Kosovo but also for the European Union and its relations with the Western Balkans. “However, I hope that the French presidency of the EU Council in 2022 will find the courage and leadership to issue visas,” Nikaj wrote.
