Facebook’s plans to launch an Instagram version for children under the age of 13 have met with resistance from US authorities, who are already asking the company to cancel them.
44 attorney generals in the United States have asked Facebook to drop plans for an Instagram dedicated to children.
They signed a letter asking Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to cancel plans for such an app.
The main reason is the safety, privacy and mental health of children. The U.S. Congress but also child protection groups have expressed similar concerns.
Prosecutors make it clear that their interest is child protection and Facebook plans put them at risk.
Applicable laws state that users must be at least 13 years old to use social media platforms.
