European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the EU should keep the entire Western Balkans region on the European path. Borrell addressed a forum in Dubrovnik on Saturday.
“The EU is the best combination of political freedoms and economic progress, as well as social solidarity in the world. We are not perfect, but we are the best, so we must continue with all those who share our vision. “This means keeping the focus in the Western Balkans, including reviving the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo,” Borrell said.
He said the exit from the coronavirus pandemic appears on the horizon, but added that everyone should stay awake, due to the new variants emerging.
Borrell warned of a worsening situation in Africa, where only three percent of the population has been vaccinated against coronavirus, compared with 60 percent in Europe.
Borrell estimated that one of the consequences of the pandemic would be “an increasingly insecure, less equal and less free world.”
“Inequality will be visible not only between countries, but also within each individual country,” he said.
Borrell said it is important how the EU will position itself in the triangle with the US and China, which, according to him, is making amazing economic development.
According to him, China’s influence is growing all over the world.
He said he believed that competition between China and the United States would shape the world in the coming decades and that the EU should set a clear direction, “looking through its glasses”.
