Opposition political parties criticized Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti for his recent meeting in Brussels with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his approach to dialogue with Serbia, calling the meetings “meetings that are not producing any results”. Kurti and Vuҫi në at the last meeting held in Brussels on July 19, did not agree on anything, while, with a dose of nervousness, they accused each other of rejecting the mutual proposals they offered at the meeting.
Performance for domestic consumption
The spokesperson of the opposition Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Sibel Halimi, says that the lack of a platform for dialogue with Serbia, with clear objectives presented to the Assembly before and after each meeting, will reduce Kosovo in the level of performance for consumption. Interior Minister of the Prime Minister Albin Kurti ”.
“The dialogue process will have to be oriented towards the precise definition of the vision of what Kosovo really aspires to achieve from this dialogue process. So far, what we have seen from the meetings are nothing more than Kurti’s extraordinary opportunity for his audience to accumulate political power. The crowd is characterized by irrationality, moved by situations similar to its counterpart, so the approach of the Prime Minister is without vision!“, Wrote Sibel Halimi on Facebook.
Lack of transparency about the talks
Even the head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) in opposition Abelard Tahiri, said that “the dialogue process with Serbia is being followed with non-transparency, because citizens do not know what topics are being discussed.” “Kurti is following this dialogue with non-transparency, so the citizens do not know anything about what Kurti is talking about with Vuqii.. “There is a danger that for the first time Kosovo will return as an unreasonable party”, said Abelard Tahiri.
Haradinaj: Useless meeting of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue
Former Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, who leads the other opposition party, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), described the recent Kurti-Vucic meeting as “a futile meeting of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue”. He said that “each party has only one interest, to deceive its own people with populist rhetoric on the eve of the elections”.
“The Prime Minister of Kosovo has decided not to do anything in this process. He does not want to realize that without US involvement, dialogue is dead. He does not want to understand that he is at a dead end with Borreli and Lajçak. The farther the involvement of an American envoy in the dialogue is postponed, the greater the damage will be, both for Kosovo and for the Prime Minister! If America was in dialogue, we would already be on the verge of the final agreement! Is there anyone who can explain this to Albin Kurti !?“, Wrote Haradinaj on Facebook.
Talks more historical lectures than concrete proposals
Meanwhile, some political analysts think that considering the approach of the parties so far from the two meetings between the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, the final Kosovo-Serbia agreement seems impossible. Political analyst Blerim Burjani told DW that the meetings in Brussels are more like historical lectures than concrete proposals.
“Mediation is positive but, if added to by the greater US influence, dialogue will probably be easier. The final agreement is far away. Instead of the proposals that the parties should make and agree on any possible solution option, in reality they in these meetings in Brussels are having debates that are more like resemblance to history lectures. “If debates continue over Kosovo-Serbia interethnic relations, there will be no agreement, but stagnation and a status quo.” says Burjani. According to him, without a concrete proposal either from the mediator of the dialogue, the Kosovo-Serbia debates will continue and that will produce a frozen conflict and not the will for a solution.
The Kosovo-Serbia debates produce a frozen conflict
“I think that without a document drafted by the US and the EU that will be given to the parties for discussion, it seems to be just a waste of time. The EU must consider an option together with the US for a final solution, otherwise there is no hope at all that the parties will ever agree on a final agreement. The EU as a mediator seems very latent, offers only good services to the parties, and sometimes I have the impression that it only organizes meetings for the parties and is not involved in the solution. So I think that a greater involvement of the mediator is required, including the USA in this process “, thinks Blerim Burjani.
Charges and counter-charges
The two meetings between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, one on June 15th and the other on July 19th, produced accusations and counter-accusations between the parties. After the last meeting, Albin Kurti said that he proposed a 6-point agreement, but that it was rejected by the Serbian side before it was read.
“I proposed a written agreement with 6 articles as a declaration of peace between Kosovo and Serbia, which was rejected, so what I had asked last time to have a declaration of peace I have prepared in a six-article text, but was still rejected without being read“, Said among others Kurti. According to him, the refusal to read it shows Serbia’s unwillingness to reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu “i., Said that “with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, it is very difficult to talk”.
”I also talked to Hashim Thaçi, Isa Mustafa, Avdullah Hoti and Ramush Haradinaj, but I never heard them. They have always asked for recognition from Serbia, it has always been difficult, but at least we have agreed on something, such as whether it is day, it is Monday, it is Friday. But now we can not agree with Kurti whether it is a day or what day of the week it is “, said Vuçi,, reports the Serbian public media rts. According to him, you can not agree on anything with Kurti. The media in Serbia write that the Serbian side is discussing the possibility of terminating the dialogue with Kosovo, but this has not been confirmed by the mediator of this dialogue, the European Union. The next Kosovo-Serbia high-level political meeting is said to be held in early September./ DW
