Gianluigi Donnarumma and Milan, a relationship destined to end. The 22-year-old goalkeeper did not go to the magic word “renewal”, with the goalkeeper of the national team who should be released on a free transfer.
How much Milan loses and how much the new team can gain from the signing of “Gigio”, show the numbers, compared to those of other goalkeepers. Statistics reward Donnarumma, who among the extreme defenders used in this Serie A, is the one who has closed the most goalless games, 14.
As much as Handanovic, but making 14 more receptions than his Slovenian counterpart (92 to 78). Donnarumma has conceded 1.03 goals per game, better than Gollini (1.04) and Szczesny (1.07), but after Handanovic, the last bastion of the best defense in the league (0.89).
On the other hand, no one recorded a higher percentage of saves than Gigio (70%, like Handanovic) among the four goalkeepers who qualified for the Champions League.
Although it is impossible to determine the exact amount of points earned by Milan thanks to his savings, also in Serie A 2020/21 Donnarumma confirmed himself as an absolute level goalkeeper, the youngest by the margin and the one with the biggest margin for growth.
Despite the fact that he may leave in the worst way, in a free transfer, after having rejected several times the offers of Milan, Donnarumma, from the moment of his debut in Serie A, that 16 years old, has made increasing performance and always in top.
In the three-point era, only Christian Abbiati (281) of the goalkeepers has played more Serie A games with Milan, while Gianluigi Donnarumma 215, becoming the youngest player in the derby against Inter in February last year.
He made 200 Serie A appearances in 21 years and 361 days and he broke the previous record set by Gianluigi Buffon. A key factor for Milan in recent seasons, certainly a strong point among all.
Since his debut in 2015/16, he has kept a clean sheet in 71 full Serie A games, less than Handanovic (85) in the same period, also expecting eight penalties in that period.
