Notification of NIPH:
Press release. In NIPHK Microbiology laboratories, on average, thousands of samples are tested on a daily basis. From the samples tested in SARS-CoV-2, one case with the African variant of SARS CoV-2: South Africa (SA) Lineage B.11351 (N501Y) (WHO label: Beta) has been confirmed. The patient is hospitalized and being treated at the Infectious Diseases Clinic. Since the case has already been contacted, contacts for eventual identification of new cases will be investigated. Such cases of the mutagenic virus have already been reported in many parts of the world. NIPHK research teams are constantly searching for all possible sources to prevent further spread of cases and potential implications for human health. The preventive measures are the same. People who test positive should stay home to prevent spreading to the family and community. By reducing contacts, it will be possible to stop the spread of infection. NIPHK reiterates its call for the implementation of all general and specific measures for protection against the COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of the measures of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
The Government of Kosovo, a month ago took the decision to ban all entry of persons coming from India, Brazil, and South Africa, in order not to spread the Covid variant.
