Some expressions should be avoided during your day at work as they will only cause you problems. Learn through this writing what they are.
1. “Can…”
Whether you are just asking questions or looking to make some copies, this way of looking conveys the hesitation and commitment of others to serve you. (Do your colleagues do this to you?) The easiest way to behave: Replace this phrase with: “Please”.
2. “This can not work, but…”
If all else fails, get ideas from others. It is very difficult to take something seriously when the person presenting it is hesitant in his attitude. Take courage and simply state your ideas.
3. “I think…”
It’s less annoying than the second phrase: “It can’t work,” but it still conveys the same uncertainty about any idea that comes to mind.
4. “I’m sorry…”
People say this all the time, for no reason. Sometimes I walk down the stairs of the building and meet someone who instead of saying ‘Hello’, says ‘I’m sorry’. For what? She really did nothing wrong! Or the case when you attack your manager with apology. What matters to your boss is finding solutions to the problem created.
5. “Quick Questions…”
This phrase is very annoying, points out Shalinii Khan, customer service manager at a company. This lowers the time and attention your colleagues get ready to answer questions. Say what you really want to say, for example. “It’s not something I want to discuss with you” or “Is it the right time to discuss this with you?”, Or “Where can I find this on the server”. Just specify your question.
6. “No problem…”
This cheeky phrase may seem like you are willingly accepting a certain task. This phrase may sound like you are doing someone else a favor, rather than doing your job. Alternatively, you can use the phrase: “I will start working on this immediately”, “I have it clear”, or “I will have it ready in an hour.”
7. “I will try…”
Unacceptable, Levine points out. I am asking that you do not try to do something, but I ask or give orders to get some work done. If the project is complicated to complete, or you are worried about the short time, explain your concerns to the boss, who can help you accomplish them.
