The Restelica-Strazimir border crossing will now be the next border crossing point between Kosovo and northern Macedonia.
This crossing is said to help even more in the cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla said that this border region has always cultivated good relations between the inhabitants of Kosovo and northern Macedonia, and therefore emphasizes that commitment is needed to facilitate their life and activity.
“As two neighboring countries we have good interstate relations. Our two countries enjoy historical, political, economic and cultural relations which make our cooperation necessary. This cross-border region has always cultivated special relations between the inhabitants of the two countries. The good coexistence of our citizens from the two areas, despite the borders pushes us to commit to facilitating their life and activity[…]”This will open new opportunities for development and cooperation between our two countries in different sectors,” he said.
Minister Sveçla added that he will be vigilant and will not allow the good cooperation between Kosovo and Northern Macedonia to be damaged by anyone.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Northern Macedonia, Oliver Spasovki, was also present at the opening ceremony of this crossing.
Meanwhile, the Macedonian Minister of Internal Affairs says that the opening of this crossing point will be safe for economic or private issues.
“I want to emphasize the need for cooperation with Kosovo Internal Affairs colleagues in border control from year to year marks an evident progress, not only in daily border activities, joint contacts at border crossings, joint patrols and similar, as well as joint cooperation to become more intensive cooperation […]”Before us is a big task and this is the joint work through our international partners, to provide financial means and finally solve all infrastructure problems,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Emilia Rexhepi, also spoke on the occasion, saying that the Government led by Albin Kurti aims to advance the lives of citizens.
Deputies and mayors from Debar, Zhupa, Sharr and Mavrovo also took part in the opening of the border crossing.
