With 60 votes in favor and 59 against, the Israeli parliament approved the new government tonight, ending the 12-year rule of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to media Naftali Bennett will lead the new cabinet, consisting of left and right parties. Bennett will hold the post of prime minister for a little over two years and will be succeeded by his main ally Yair Lapid.
Earlier, the 120-member parliament elected its new speaker with 67 votes in favor. Mickey Levy of the centrist Yesh Atid party will lead the new parliament. His election also laid the groundwork for the approval of the new coalition government.
In his speech, Bennett also stated that if Hamas attacked Israel, he would receive a strong response. He also estimated that a return to the Iran nuclear deal would be a mistake. He stated that Israel would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons
According to Naftali Bennett, the new government will open a new chapter between the state and the Arab citizens of Israel, while also thanking Netanyahu for the role he played in this process for the election of the new government.
