The incumbent chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, has given another message regarding the elections for the new leader of the Democrats, considering June 13 as the first test after the election massacre.
“Today is the first test after the election massacre. We today show our values, strength and unity. The Democratic Party is ready to continue the battle until the fall of the Rama-Doshi regime. “Democrats are ready to fight for change, for democracy, for Albania”, Basha writes on social networks.
Earlier today, Basha gave a statement to the media after the vote, considering the process as unique and based on the values of democracy, such as competition and free expression.
COMPETITION
The incumbent chairman of the Democratic Party, Basha, is challenged in the elections within the party by three candidates, Agron Shehaj, Fatbardh Kadilli and Edit Harxhi.
Democrats hold internal party elections after losing the April 25th general parliamentary elections where Edi Rama secured a third term in office. Lulzim Basha has considered the elections an “electoral massacre” claiming for manipulation and vote-buying. Lulzim Basha has been leading the PD for almost 8 years.
He was elected party leader in 2013 after the resignation of Sali Berisha, while he was confirmed in a second term in 2017. Recall that the polling stations opened at 08:00 and the process will end at 19:00. There are a total of 76 polling stations across the country, while 75,000 Democrat members have the right to vote.
