The Austrian news agency APA claims that the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union is holding a “non-paper” document proposing border changes in the Western Balkans.
According to earlier reports, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa, whose country will hold the next EU presidency, proposed a new border change in the Balkans.
“After a thorough check, I must inform you that we can not give you access to that document,Was the response of the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU to the APA request.
It was explained that the publication of the only document that this EU institution has would endanger international relations.
According to Slovenian media, the document, signed with proposals for new borders in the former Yugoslavia, Jansa, bypassing the official route, was handed over to EU Council President Charles Michel.
However, this was never confirmed and Jansa denied that the Slovenian government had anything to do with that document.
Otherwise, APA adds, the document says that, if proposals reach the public, the document should be rejected.
Slovenia will take over the EU presidency on July 1st and has announced that it wants to pay special attention to the Western Balkans’ rapprochement with the Union./Express.
