Instead of a smartphone and a navigation system, a technology company is creating a smart glass that can be used in vehicles to view virtual objects and information through augmented reality.
Getting directions from a cell phone can be helpful, but the driver has to take his eyes off the road to see the map on the small screen. What if the entire windshield of the car was the navigation device – as a safer way to give the car?
“We can create three-dimensional images and they can be seen through a special type of glass. We call it holographic glass “, says Vitaly Ponomarev, founder and CEO of WayRay.
The Swiss company WayRay has created a unique device, which when placed between two layers of glass resembles a lens. When combined with computer programming and laser projection mounted on the car dashboard, the driver can see augmented reality and virtual information through the glass, similar to other augmented reality experiences that can be seen through glasses, says WayRay founder , Vitaly Ponomarev.
“We use the refraction of light to reflect it directly into the retina of the eye, so it looks like a real three-dimensional object. (In) the real world; so we simulate how the real object would have released the light. ”
In addition to navigation, the windshield may also display other safety information, such as other cars, pedestrians or objects. mainly using data from sensors that exist in cars. But WayRay technology is not limited to car glass.
From airplane windows to train windows and buildings, enriched reality can be obtained with any transparent surface. In the future, users can play games, access social media, learn information about what they are seeing, all through holographic display on glass.
The founder of WayRay predicts that car windows with additional information images for reality will start to be used in some new cars around 2023.
