On the 14th day of the ‘war’ with the flames, thankfully, this morning the situation in Vlora seems calmer. The fires have been brought under control in the villages of Gjorm and Gumenica, where work is being done to extinguish the last remaining fires.
Also in Karaburun the situation is under control, where work is being done to extinguish some small fires, while the hopes of firefighters and the army engaged in the field are also in the weather conditions, as a strong wind would change everyone. the situation, giving impetus to the flames.
Vlora faced such a situation the day before, where the flames reached frightening proportions in the villages of Gjorm and Gumenica. The fires burned 3 apartments in Gjorm, some stalls and cattle, but fortunately no one was injured. The flames spread from the wind within minutes, while the Ministry of Defense immediately ordered the evacuation of the villages. To neutralize the situation, 2 helicopters, 2 firefighters and 40 soldiers of the Armed Forces intervened.
The situation was dramatic the day before in Karaburun as well, because the strong wind spread the flames and suspended the work of the fire brigade and the intervention from the air. The flames went to the border with Llogara Park, but fortunately it was not affected by the flames.
Today, two helicopters from the Netherlands and one from the Czech Republic are expected to arrive in the country, which responded to the EU request to help our country in the ‘battle’ with the flames.
