Analysts Fatos Lubonja and Artur Zheji, invited to the show “Points on i” on “News 24” have discussed the fact that the US has declared former Prime Minister Sali Berisha non grata.
Lubonja stressed that the attack on Berisha is politically wrong.
Zheji assessed that Berisha received the declaration non grata from the USA as a personal challenge, thus protecting the Democratic Party.
Zheji also added that the DP can accept Rama’s offer for co-government, to co-govern, for the sake of stability.
Artur Zheji: I think that Berisha’s battle is his, he did not make it a PD battle. By personalizing the issue, Berisha defended the DP. Yuri Kim said that Albania is changing. Kim introduced Berisha’s act into the act of doing nothing. The DP may be forced to accept Rama’s offer of co-government for the sake of stability. We are 2.8 million inhabitants in total, we are like a big city. A situation will be insisted on punishing a person who ran this country eight years ago.
Fatos Lubonja: We are in a situation where things cannot be said openly. Some things are not said openly here, because it is about the USA. Yuri Kim says that Albania is changing, and I say it is changing, while I emphasize that Albania is changing in terms of strengthening a regime. Albanians cannot escape American patronage. The question is whether Kim is saying things that are true. I say “no” is not so.
When the US went to war in Iraq and we were with the Americans, it was not a fair war because democracy is not exported. In Iraq, a great deal of chaos ensued. How can I believe this system, the party-state, when I look at the police who cooperate with crime to buy votes, Ms. Kim does not say a word about these. The attack on Berisha was politically wrong, because it weakens the opposition. We need strong opposition.
