Biden’s visit to Europe has attracted international media attention, not only for its geostrategic importance but also for the protection used.
On Monday the president met with King Philippe of Belgium, at the Royal Palace in Brussels and security personnel in the area were seen carrying an anti-drone weapon to prevent everything from aerial photographs to assassination attempts.
New York Times staff photographer Doug Mills captured the above photo of security guards looking more like they were preparing for an alien invasion.
Two different types of anti-drone systems were maintained by members of the Belgian Federal Police, one that fires shells at drones and another that uses radio frequency blocking to control the drone. The weapon that has attracted the attention of the drones used by the Belgian police, belongs to the Austrian company DroneShield.
Various media outlets have published images of security forces being seen in the streets carrying these types of weapons.
