The UN General Assembly has approved the budget of the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo for the following year. Starting July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022, UNMIK will cost $ 41,298,500.
Most of the budget is spent on financing staff costs. In total, $ 32,534,400. The total UNMIK staff consists of 348 people, of whom 312 are civilians and 9 civilian experts, as well as 18 in uniform, of which 10 are police officers and 8 are military observers. $ 768,500 is provided for staff in uniform. 21 volunteers also work for UNMIK.
The rest of the budget is allocated for services and equipment 2 784 500, for infrastructure and facilities
$ 2,732,200, for traffic $ 1,869,800. There are also expenses for consultations, travel, medical services.
The UNMIK budget in the early years was more than $ 400 million a year.
The UN funds 12 peacekeeping missions around the world, most of them on the African continent, with a total budget of about $ 6 billion. UN missions in Mali, the Central African Republic and the Congo have budgets of more than $ 1 billion. The other UN peacekeeping mission in Europe besides Kosovo is in Cyprus, with a budget of about $ 55 million.
UNMIK, like other peacekeeping missions, is funded by a separate financial account, where states contribute according to a certain formula and approved annually by the General Assembly./DW
