Advanced Micro Devices and Google on Thursday signed an agreement where the search engine giant will provide cloud services based on the latest AMD processors.
A move that will intensify the battle between AMD and Intel, Google, Amazon and Microsoft are the biggest buyers of chips for data centers.
They provide cloud services to millions of customers. Google said it has already begun offering services with the new AMD “Milan” chip launched in March.
The company said customers like Snap and Twitter are testing AMD’s new microarchitecture. The latter has gradually taken over the market from Intel which is no longer the dominant player in the chip business for data centers.
In April, Intel introduced AMD Milan’s competitor, an “Ice Lake” chip, but it is not known what cloud providers have adopted it. / PCWorld Albanian
