The day when Kosovo and Serbia will normalize relations seems far away. Brussels’ role as mediator in this process is being seen as weak.
British professor James Lindsay is seeing the dialogue process stalled and pointing the finger at the European Union.
“We are simply going around without any fresh thought from the parties or the European Union. I do not see that this process will have any progress. The European Union has done very little to stimulate the parties. He has failed to send a message of enlargement to the Western Balkans. To be more honest some of the most innovative ideas have been blocked by Berlin. “Ultimately it is up to the parties to work on the final solution and this should be supported and not blocked by the EU and its partners,” Lindsay told RTV Dukagjini.
The expert says that due to changes in geopolitics, Serbia is already more favored compared to Kosovo and according to him, this is not easily accepted by the people in Kosovo, reports Telegrafi.
“As for the current position of Pristina, she saying that Serbia should recognize Kosovo will not change anything. Belgrade has little reason to do so at the moment and it is not that it will pay a high price for it. Serbia, whether it recognizes Kosovo or not, has no guarantee that it will join the European Union. Meanwhile, Kosovo is the party that has closed its doors to many international mechanisms. “With a weak EU role in Kosovo, and great Russian and Chinese influence in the Balkans, Serbia is in a stronger position than ever.”
The dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia started in 2011 and turned from a technical dialogue into a political dialogue.
