Starlink is in talks with several airlines to offer Wi-Fi internet access on their planes.
The satellite internet network built by Elon Musk's company has long been expected to make such a move as the provision of internet to rural areas was the main objective of the company.
Starlink towards the end of the year will offer broadband internet access worldwide. Since 2018, the company has launched 1,800 satellites out of 4,400 newcomers to provide global satellite internet coverage.
This type of network will provide service where fiber optics have not arrived. The service is currently being tested at speeds up to 100Mbps download and 20Mbps upload.
Installing this internet costs $ 500 while the service costs $ 100 every month. However new competitors are starting to emerge. Amazon aims to launch 3,000 satellites while OneWeb 640. The former has yet to launch none while OneWeb 182.
