The Minister of Health, Arben Vitia has visited the Vaccination Center in the hall “October 1”, to see closely the mass vaccination of citizens.
On this occasion he said that the vaccination will be done based on the Action Plan with the vaccine against Covid-19. Synim said that 60% of the population has been vaccinated, adding that 320 thousand citizens will receive the vaccine per month.
Mass vaccination has started in Kosovo. In the hall “October 1” in Pristina are gathered citizens who are being vaccinated and others who are waiting for vaccination.
So far, over 99 thousand vaccines have been administered, while about 97 thousand vaccines are in stock.
The Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, has announced that by the end of the month, about 40 thousand doses of the anti-COVID vaccine are expected to arrive. On the day the mass vaccination started, Vitia stated that there are enough doses in stock to start this process.
“June 15 is the date for the start of mass vaccination because we are sure that there will be enough doses in our stocks. Over 1.2 million doses of Pfizer are expected to arrive by the end of the year. “We plan to vaccinate about 320,000 people every month.”
Vitia has pointed out that vaccination figures could increase if multiple contingents arrive each month.
He stated that the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the municipalities has created new spaces for vaccination, increasing the necessary capacities, developing the vaccination module and organizing the logistics.
“We have already passed the figure of 100. Thousands vaccinated, the goal is to vaccinate 60 percent of citizens. Immunization has been and is the key word of commitment at this time, providing the necessary vaccines is our responsibility. Calls for vaccination are necessary. The pandemic is not over yet, contribution, care and accountability continue to be important. “We encourage you to apply in e-Kosovo for vaccination”, he said.
He added that the Ministry of Health in cooperation with municipalities has created new vaccination facilities, added 279 vaccination teams nationwide, and set up the necessary infrastructure.
“Today I am pleased to say that now we have passed the figure of 100 thousand vaccinated, and our goal remains the vaccination of 60%. Currently, people over 65 years of age and people with chronic diseases regardless of age are being vaccinated,” said Vitia.
The Minister called on citizens to apply for the vaccine.
The Government of Kosovo announced weeks ago that it has contracted 1.2 million Pfizer vaccines that will arrive by the end of the year.
About 100,000 vaccinations have been carried out in the country so far. All with “AstraZeneca” and “Pfizer” vaccines received through donations from the “COVAX” alliance and the European Union.
Recently, the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths has dropped significantly in Kosovo. Since March 13, when the first cases of coronavirus were registered, the authorities have registered over 107 thousand cases. Of these, 2,250 cases ended in fatality. Currently, there are 345 active cases.
