From wild horses to centuries-old forests, you will surely have an unforgettable day at the beach.
Beaches will always be considered a relaxing landscape for the eye and mind. As far as the word beach is concerned, most of us think of sand, crystal clear water or dark blue and tides.
However, not all beaches can be easily predicted, because there are some coastlines around the world that “hide surprises even under their waves”.
Glass Beach, California
Who could have imagined that something so beautiful could come from dumping garbage? The Glass Beach near Fort Bragg in Northern California is filled with multicolored glass pebbles. This extraordinary view is the result of the beach location which has served as a garbage dump for years. The beach was eventually cleared, but much of the rubbish – especially glass and metal – was picked up by the waves and over the years turned into smooth, jeweled pieces.
Hoshizuna no Hama, Japan
At first glance, Hoshizuna no Hama on the Japanese island of Iriomote looks like a very beautiful beach covered with ordinary sand. But if you look closer (much closer), you may notice that star-shaped sand grains are, in fact, the empty ecosystems of a single-celled organism.
Jökulsárlón, Iceland
Iceland is home to several black sand beaches, but the beach at Jökulsárlón is special as it is populated with crystal clear ice that has earned it the nickname “Diamond Beach”. The beach is located near the glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón.
Chandipur Beach, India
There is nothing unusual about the currents. The nature of this tidal beach has made it look like a literary metaphor. In the tide, water recedes up to three miles inside the Bay of Bengal. As the water recedes, it leaves not just a large beach shore that can be walked, but a variety of marine life.
Singing Beach, Massachusetts
Singing Beach in Massachusetts is home to a natural phenomenon known as “whistling sand”, “whistling sand”, etc. Even as visitors walk on the sand, it will emit a roaring sound.
Hot water beach, New Zealand
New Zealand’s hot water beach is located above an underground hot spring, allowing beachgoers to dig in the sand and form their own personal spas on the shore.
Papakōlea Beach, Hawaii
For starters the beaches of Hawaii are gorgeous. But Papakōlea Beach is much more beautiful thanks to the green sand, due to the presence of crystals, which are found in the volcanic material of the country.
Assateague Island, Maryland / Virginia.
It is not so uncommon to go to a beach and see a rider coming down to shore. But when you go to the island of Assateague, you can have the good fortune to see horses on the beach – without riders. The island is famous for its wild horses. It is not known exactly how the horses got to the island, but a popular legend says that they are the survivors of a sunken Spanish ship of the 17th century.
Shell beach, Australia
Similar to Hoshizuna no Hama, Guaskave beach seems to be covered with standard (though beautiful) sand. And while the name gives you a pretty good indication of its true nature, what makes up the shore only becomes more apparent if you look at it more closely. The shore is covered with shells that are in abundance here because the high salt water makes them easier to form.
