Apple has confirmed that it has stored Chinese consumer information in data centers in China following New York Times reports.
However the company insisted that there was no data compromise either from the company or the customers.
China has for years been accused of using technology to track citizens and even develop tools for mass eavesdropping.
By storing information on Chinese servers Apple has been subject to local laws questioning the company’s credibility.
But the company itself says it is subject to local laws in all countries where it has a physical presence. In December 2020 Apple was the company that deleted 46,000 apps from app stores in China following a state order.
Most were games that had to have a license to operate in China. In 2019 the other giant Google abandoned a project to launch a censored version of the search engine in China after criticism from staff themselves. / PCWorld Albanian
