Italiania Benedetta Pilato excelled at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest. In the second semifinal of the 50 meters in frog style, the 16-year-old Italian gave a time of 29 seconds and 30 tenths, setting the absolute world record.
She improved on the previous one which was 29 seconds and 40 tenths set by American Lilly King. “I did not expect it, I still do not understand that I have set the world record. I just thought I was doing better, but no record.
I’m very happy, but I do not want to cry. I felt the applause of others so much, it was beautiful. “I did not believe that I would record such a time, despite the fact that I felt in shape.” – were the words of the notary for “RAI”.
