Italiania Benedetta Pilato excelled at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest. In the second semifinal of the 50 meters in frog style, the 16-year-old Italian gave a time of 29 seconds and 30 tenths, setting the absolute world record.

Thus, Pilato becomes the second Italian to hold a world record along with Federica Pellegrini in the 200 freestyle, a record set in 2009.
