The European Space Agency says a giant iceberg has split from Antarctica into the Wedel Sea. It is an ice surface of 4,320 square meters, which is 175 kilometers long and 25 kilometers wide, reports the Guardian. This is the largest iceberg that has been shared so far, which in terms of territory is four times larger than New York, respectively in terms of Macedonia is almost as large as the entire region of Pelagonija, reports Portalb.mk.
The large iceberg was named the AN-76 and its size exceeds the area of the largest ice coast ever detached A-32 A, which has an area of 3,880 square meters.
So far scientists have been divided over what is the reason for the separation of the giant iceberg from Antarctica. The splitting of a large layer of ice may be a natural process that has occurred in the past, but it is doubtful that the splitting of such large chunks from Antarctica is the result of climate change on Earth, or global warming.
