Just hours after the ceasefire took effect, there were again clashes between Palestinian protesters and the Israeli army.
Protesters hurled stones and soldiers fired rubber bullets and tear gas amid riots around the holy site in Jerusalem.
Israeli police attacked worshipers at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque with stun grenades after Friday prayers, local media reported.
Hundreds of Palestinians had held a festive demonstration in Al-Aqsa in which they waved Palestinian flags and Hamas slogans.
The death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip has risen to 243, including 66 children and 39 women, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said on Friday, and more than 1,900 people were injured.
A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas entered into force at 2 a.m. Friday. The ceasefire was mediated by Egypt and came after 11 days of Israeli airstrikes on the Palestinian enclave. The Israeli army has been carrying out airstrikes across the Gaza Strip since May 10, destroying residential buildings, hospitals and educational centers.
