Esmerald Xhafa, 27, has been arrested by British police in Boroughbridge after being charged by a court with drug possession and cannabis production.
The young Albanian, when he noticed that he was being chased by the police, left the car and fled on foot, in a field by the highway, while the English police followed him by helicopter, until he managed to handcuff him.
More than 15 kg of cannabis and 273 pounds were found in his BMW. The young man is currently in detention and has refused to answer police questions.
After the arrest, the police conducted searches in the apartment where the 27-year-old lived, where they found 56 cannabis plants in the attic.
Xhafa’s defense lawyer said that the Albanian was in England for a better life, for himself and his family, and for this reason he became involved in an organized-criminal gang.
The lawyer said that he had tried several times to give up, but his superiors forced him to remain submissive to them and not to leave the ‘bar house’ where he worked.
Following this evidence, Judge Simon Hickey decided to sentence the Albanian to 28 months in prison.
