The cornerstone is being laid today for the construction of the new Tirana maternity hospital “Queen Geraldine”, where the Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister of Health, Ogerta Manastirliu are present.
At the inauguration ceremony at ‘Queen Geraldine’ it was said that our health system is on a ‘construction site’ in terms of reform.
“Today we are on the construction site to double the capacity of the beds, to increase the number of rooms and to give quality service conditions to the entire service staff. The maternity ward will not only triple its capacity but will also have a prematurity center. Definitely all the elements of the new project are as a result of in-depth needs analysis. The expansion of the current building but also the significant increase of the level of technology in this maternity hospital go together with each other. Health reform is on a large construction site that includes all of these smaller construction sites. The goal to realize hospital autonomy is already in an advanced process “, said Rama.
“With this new construction we will increase hospital capacity, the number of beds will go to 360 and that in intensive care will be doubled. It will serve more than 20 thousand patients a year. From 6 maternity wards we go to 10 maternity wards of European standards. The center of prematurity is the innovation, this unique center will increase the quality of service, in the project for reconstruction and expansion will be intervened in 3 parties, the new building that will have 3 floors and an underground where is the laboratory, complete reconstruction of maternity hospitals and the details of the technical architecture will be preserved in its facade and its interior space and the gynecology will be expanded. It will be completed in 3 years, and it will be turned into a big construction site “, said Manastirliu.
