Director of the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Dr. John Nkengasong criticized the statement made by Canada that for a long time it will not allow entry to the country for persons not vaccinated with the new coronavirus vaccine (COVID-19).
Nkengasong in a statement from Twitter regarding the decision that Canada has taken, recalled that he had previously warned that this scenario could be experienced even though a significant part of the population of some Africa CDC countries has been vaccinated.
“This decision by Canada will exacerbate inequalities and further complicate the fight against COVID-19 globally,” Nkengasong said.
He has previously said that while rich countries are vaccinating their populations and the fact that the rest of the world is not vaccinated will not help end the pandemic, he has warned that this will only exacerbate the problem. .
Unvaccinated people will not be allowed to enter Canada for long periods of time
The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau has stated that it will take a “long time” for Canada to be ready to accept any unvaccinated tourist. “We must continue to be confident in the safety of Canadians and that the sacrifices made in recent months have not been in vain,” Trudeau said.
These conditions in Canada where previously those entering the country required a 3-day hotel quarantine and a 14-day home quarantine were lifted as of July 5, 2021 for persons who have received both doses of the vaccine.
