From September 13 of this year, all students who will sit for the first time in the school benches, in addition to Albanian, will also receive English language basics. Apparently the introduction of English as a compulsory subject that first grade did not remain just an electoral promise.
“English will be taught everywhere, in all schools of the country since the first grade”, – said Prime Minister Rama during the presentation of the program for education on March 16, 2021.
To make this possible, the Minister of Education, Evis Kushi, has signed the order announcing the competition between the publishing houses that will publish the textbooks for the first grade students. Tomorrow, on July 12, according to the order in question, the publishing house will be declared the winner. Thus English will be taught in parallel with literacy and will be the first foreign language.
To make it as easy as possible for the little ones and not to cause a load, the curriculum for learning English will be developed mainly through play, drawings and songs, to continue the reinforcement with reading and writing at other levels.
It seems that the placement of English has delighted English teachers who expect to be recruited more in number this year but on the other hand has made other alternative language teachers anxious with the fear of being left out of the game. But it also means saving for the pockets of parents who spend extra by enrolling their children in extracurricular English courses.
Early learning of English is seen as closely linked to knowledge and use of technology. In order to keep the children as connected as possible with information technology, another innovation will be implemented this school year, because in addition to English, education in technology and information will be included in the program in the first grade, for the same the latter does not yet have many details.
