Albania has experienced a decline in the ranking of the Rule of Law Index for 2020 despite the reforms undertaken in the justice system.
The independent data institution on the rule of law, The World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index has published figures and rankings for 2020, including Albania.
Our country is ranked 78th in the list of 128 countries in terms of the efficiency of the justice system, decreasing by 4 places compared to 2019 and decreasing by 0.50 points.
Meanwhile, according to WJP, at the regional level Albania is ranked ninth out of 14 countries.
FALL IN SOME FACTORS OF THE RULE OF LAW
Limitations on government power
According to WJP, Albania has lost several countries in this ranking where globally it ranks 96th while regionally in 7th place out of 14 countries. The result in this factor is 0.45 which is above the regional average which is 0.43 but far from the global level which is 0.55.
Lack of corruption
Even in this category, Albania has seen a decrease compared to a year ago. Our country is ranked 100th out of 128 countries globally while regionally it is in 11th place. With only 0.37 points, Albania is below the regional average of 0.44 and globally 0.52.
In the results processed by this factor, Albania is ranked 77th globally and 10th regionally. With 0.47 points it is below the regional average which is 0.48 and the global average of 0.52.
A positive note is the ranking of Albania in terms of the implementation of fundamental rights. Globally, it is ranked 54th, while regionally it is ranked 5th. With 0.59 points, Albania exceeds the regional and world average, which are 0.52 and 0.57, respectively.
Order and security
Order and security has been assessed with a positive grade by WJP as Albania is ranked 36th globally and 7th regionally. With 0.79 points, our country exceeds the average of the region and the globe.
In this respect, Albania has experienced a decrease in rankings. According to the data, our country is 87th globally and 12th regionally. With 0.48 points it does not exceed the average of the region and the world.
Justice against crime
In this respect, Albania has scored above the regional average. Globally, it ranks 72nd, while regionally it ranks 8. With 0.43, our country exceeds the regional average of 0.42 points but is below the global average of 0.47.
The first places for 2020 are ranked Denmark, Norway and Finland. According to the WJP, over the past year most states have experienced a drop in rankings.
The World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index is an independent rule of law data institution. It now covers 128 countries and publishes data based on monitoring and surveys conducted in these countries on how the world justice system works.
