Mobile internet use has increased in the first quarter of this year and compared to January-March 2020 was at least 33 percent more. Data from the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority show that the amount of data traffic (Internet) on mobile networks during Q1 2021 was about 31 Million GByte. An active user of mobile broadband access has averaged about 5.15 GB of Internet per month in Q1 2021, an increase of 15.5% compared to Q4 2020 and a 33% increase compared to Q1 2020.
The number of active users of broadband Internet access from mobile networks in Q1 2021 was about 2 million which represents an increase of 1.5% over the previous quarter, and an increase of 16.9% compared to the first quarter of 2020.
Quite the opposite has happened on the other hand with cell phone calls and messages that have declined. The average monthly consumption per active user of mobile services during T1 2021 was: 184 outgoing minutes, 18 SMS and 5.15 GB Internet. Compared to Q4 2020, average call consumption decreased by 1%, average SMS consumption decreased by 10.5% and average internet consumption increased by 15.5.
According to AKEP the number of mobile service subscribers according to SIM cards at the end of Q1 2021 was about 3,169,950 which is a decrease of 5% compared to the previous quarter, and a decrease of 2.7% compared to Q1 2020;
“The number of active mobile phone users during Q1 2021 reached about 2.49 million, which is a decrease of about 0.8% with Q4 2020 and an increase of about 0.6% with Q1 2020; – The total outgoing calls generated by mobile subscribers in Albania in Q1 2021 was about 1.38 billion minutes, with a decrease of 1.7% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 8.2% with Q1 2020.
The number of calls to other national mobile networks (off-net) increased by 0.5% compared to Q4 2020 and increased by 16.1% compared to a year earlier in Q1 2020;
The amount of on-net calls decreased by 3.5% compared to Q4 2020 and increased by 2.7% compared to Q1 2020. The number of SMS messages sent by mobile network subscribers in Q1 2021 was about 135 million which is a decrease by 11.1% compared to Q4 2020 and a decrease of 31.8% by Q1 2020 ”estimates AKEP./ monitor
