The mortal remains of Osman (Abedin) Osmani and Rexhep (Zukë) Rexhepi, identified months ago from samples sent for DNA analysis, are being handed over for reburial today.
The mortal remains of two war victims were found and exhumed during the excavations months ago in Syrigana with the commitment of the institutional mechanisms of the Republic of Kosovo.
After the official announcement of the families for the identification of Osman Osmani and Rexhep Rexhepi, the families have requested that the reburial ceremony be organized today, from 16:00 in the cemetery of the village Syriganë. The reburial, at the request of the family, will take place on June 8, which coincides with the date of their abduction and enforced disappearance by Serbian police forces in 1998.
The issue of samples of mortal remains exhumed during these months was also discussed at the meeting organized by the International Commission on Missing Persons at the end of last week in Belgrade, Serbia, with the participation of representatives of the Government Commission of the Republic of Kosovo for Persons Missing and the Serbian Commission on Missing Persons.
In this case, the International Commission on Missing Persons has announced five new identifications from the samples sent by the competent institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, for which identification reports have already been sent through DNA analysis and for this data. the families of the identified persons are being notified. It has also been confirmed that samples from the mortal remains exhumed this year from the mass grave in Kizhevak are already in ICMP laboratories in identification procedures.
The Government of the Republic of Kosovo remains committed to the maximum commitment to address with priority the elucidation of the fate of missing persons, respecting the right of families to know the fate and whereabouts of their missing relatives.
