The Albanian community in Greece has announced that it will organize today a peaceful protest in the “Syntagma” square for the opening of the borders. The protest has been announced to gather at 18:00.
This decision comes at a time when the Greek authorities continue to delay the opening of borders and the enforcement of measures against COVID-19, where it is envisaged that only a limited number of persons will pass through customs.
“Open the customs now!
Do not deny us our home!
Once again, as Albanian emigrants and citizens of Greece, we feel the need so much to have a loud, powerful and strong Voice…!
Why does the Greek government keep the border with Albania closed and has asphyxiatively limited the number of entry into Greece, while with other countries the complete opposite happens?
Why is this difference made only with Albanians and forces them to find other solutions?
Why at this moment when the restriction of entry punishes the Greek farmers themselves who are waiting for thousands of qualified seasonal workers coming from Albania?
Why this difference even towards the Greek minorities?
Why should thousands of businesses on both sides of the border who contribute to the country’s economy be “punished”?
We call on all of you, without exception and without distinction, to gather on 8/06/2021 in “Syntagma” Square to demand our rights in a democratic way in a Peaceful protest.
Let our voice be heard by the Greek government, which we call on to reconsider the unfair treatment of us, its citizens, as it continues to penalize by keeping customs points closed and thus deprived of a fundamental right to travel to the homeland and vice versa in the place where we chose to live and build our lives, Greece!
We call on every citizen, compatriot, intellectual, organization, association, etc., to organize and protest democratically, as we have never had support from the Albanian government!
Do not miss anyone, all together on 8/06/2021 in the square “Syntagma”! “, Is the announcement that this community has posted on the social network Facebook.
On Wednesday, June 9, the Committee of Experts in Greece will meet to facilitate a series of measures in order to speed up the opening and return to normalcy.
Among the measures expected to be eased will be the increase of quotas at border crossings with Albania.
